Read this, it's a killer TEST!! WOO
November 2003 Archives
According to 'my mom' the archived links weren't working. I've now fixed it so that it DOES work. I've also changed the title from "First Weblog" to "Less Than Me."
This is a test on adding a pic to an entry... An old pic of me and my friend Gay-vid.

Less Than Me is really comin' together, but I've already spent WAY more time than I ever expected just to get this far. As you might suspect from the current items listed on the left of the page, I'm an avid videogame player. I wouldn't say that videogames will be my sole topic here at Less Than Me, but it'll probably make up a good chunk of what I've got to say.
I'm going down to Portland in the morning to do the Thanksgiving rounds, and then this weekend should be full of videogamey goodness! I'm getting together with my buddies Gay-vid & Micahmoo on Sat. to play some PGR2, Crimson Skies, Mario Kart & probably a little Halo. And, my trusty GBA will keep me busy (playing Mario & Luigi and Fire Emblem) on the drive down to P-town.
My GBA gameplaying on the trip down was a bit frustrating due to an issue I've seen in RPGs before. I was playing Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga when I stumbled across a boss battle. Now, as far as I'm concerned a console RPG boss battle should have 1 of 3 outcomes:
1) You're not leveled up enough so you simply can't defeat the boss until you've leveled up some more.
2) Due to mistakes or bad judgment the boss kills you, but you'll be able to win if you replay the boss with a better strategy.
3) You beat the boss.
The 4th undesirable outcome is a stalemate between you and the boss. Your attacks aren’t strong enough to overtake the boss healing himself. Theoretically this should eventually result in outcome 1, but due to magic or items (or in the case of M&L, pattern recognition to avoid attacks) your characters don't die. So you can keep fighting this boss 'til the end of time, but you just won't get anywhere. You have to give up, turn off the game and start back at your last save point. Sounds fun, eh?
Let the videogame disappointment continue... I got my hands on PGR2 for the first time today, and BOY do I suck at it!! I got to be pretty darn good at the original Project Gotham Racing, but something's changed since then. Although it's been a while since I've played the 1st PGR, I think it's mainly the tweaked physics (and my inability to adjust accordingly) that sends me into wall after wall (after wall).
I'm still planning on picking it up (only $20 at the MS store, so C'MON!) and hopefully I'll get better at it with some practice! Plus, the seamless integration with Xbox Live is slick and it really hints at the possible coolness of future of online console games.
